Nalini Pasayat always made things. Drawings, stitched fabric, small crafts built from whatever was around. In Sambalpur, this was just how she spent her time. In Sripura, after her marriage, it became something she had to defend.

Her husband stood behind her. Her in-laws didn't. A beauty parlour, they said, wasn't a serious ambition for a married woman. Choose something else. For a while, it looked like they'd win.

Nalini didn't drop the idea. She held onto it until Epsilon Foundation and Magic Bus opened a five-day business training in her area. She enrolled. Business planning, customer handling, basic bookkeeping - none of it glamorous, all of it necessary. What she says changed most wasn't the skill, it was being told, for the first time by someone outside her family, that the idea was sound.

On 6th February 2026, she opened her parlour from home. She named it Shreya (her daughter's name) because the business and the reason for it were never really separate.

Her in-laws have come around. Her clients keep coming back. What Nalini built wasn't just a livelihood. It was proof, to herself first, that she'd been right to keep waiting for someone to say yes.
