Program:
Odisha's coastline is one of the world's most important nesting habitats for the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtle, and one of the most threatened, between accidental fishing net entanglement, habitat degradation, marine pollution and human interference. Running FY 2023 through FY 2025, this programme built and trained a community-run Sea Turtle Protection Force to handle beach patrolling, nest monitoring, hatchery management, hatchling release and awareness work through each nesting season, while working separately with artisanal fishing communities on sustainable practices to cut accidental turtle mortality.
